I mentioned in my last post a skating group in Nottingham called The Nottingham Skaters. So this post will be dedicated to talking about my first skate with them (and only one so far! since I haven’t found the time since).
The skaters meet at Old Market Square every Tuesday night (weather permitting) near the tram stops in front of the clock tower and the skate commences at 20:00 (officially on the last stroke of the clock bell). Two people act as marshals in high visibility vests, with one leading the skating group and one flagging behind the group. Overall, the skate lasts 3 hours at a leisurely pace (or faster depending on whether the leader is feeling kind!) and ends at a pub in the city centre for a well earned break.
It is recommended that you know how to stop, turn and mount/unmount curbs effectively to take part in a TNS and be a general confident skater. Protective gear, drinks, and warm clothing in colder months, and torches/flash lights are advisable.
There is a dedicated Facebook group page for anyone who wants to join and keep up to date with whether the weather is good enough for a skate! Although they are a separate group, experienced BladeSoc skaters often join The Nottingham Skaters for this Tuesday night skate!
